Music Studio Showcase - Audition Deadline Extended!
The Music Studio PA is excited to invite your student to audition for the Music Studio Showcase. Submit your video audition now for a chance to perform live at the showcase, happening Sunday, November 9th at 2 PM at Hill Country Barbecue Market. Auditions must be received by 11:59 PM on Thursday, October 9th. Details can be found on the official application.
Please note, this is a public event hosted by the Music Studio Parents Association, NOT LaGuardia High School.

Concerto Competition deadlines approaching!
The deadline to submit applications for the Concerto Competition is Tuesday, September 23. The first round of auditions will begin on Tuesday, September 30.
The Concerto Competition is an annual Music Studio event. Students who submit an application will audition in two rounds. Finalists from the first round are judged by outside experts and three Concerto Competition winners are chosen. The winning students will perform their concertos as a special concert which will take place on Tuesday, March 31. The students will be accompanied by the LaGuardia Philharmonic Orchestra. This is one of the most special events of the school year!
Eligibility Criteria
- Students must be in good standing at LaGuardia Arts. Please check your transcript to be sure you are in good standing.
- The audition piece selected by a student must be one that is playable by the orchestra and meet its instrumentation - please check with your music teacher if you have questions.
- If the audition piece is not already in the LaGuardia Arts Orchestral Library, it must be available to the school on a rental, purchase or loan basis.
- A student who was a soloist in last year’s concerto concert IS NOT eligible this year.
- Student must have been at LaGuardia for more than one year. (Sophomore transfer students may apply beginning in their junior year.)

Thank You, Music Studio PA Volunteers at Orientation 8/28/25
We had the wonderful opportunity to meet new families at New Student Orientation that was held on August 28th. Thank you to our parent volunteers: Abhilasha Mahan, Alison Bartolone, Brooke Nixon-Friedheim, Diane Vasquez, Hiam Abbas, Jennifer Dumlao, Jennifer Richey, Katrin Hatch, Lara Bursor, Madeline Mercado, Marlene Smoot, Marty Mikles, Rona Tamir, Rose Javier, Sheila Boland, Sonya Houston, Veronika Surla and Wendi Lei. (Please let us know if we’re missing anyone who lent a hand that day at the Music Studio PA table!)

We were able to raise $9,410 in merch sales that day (!!) that will go directly to supporting LaGuardia Music Studio, and we’re very grateful to you all for the continued support.

Welcome to LaG, Ms. Chanphanitpornkit
LaG is excited to announce a wonderful addition to the music faculty in Ms. Tanatchaya (Tanya) Chanphanitpornkit. Ms. Chanphanitpornkit is a conductor with a rich history of inspiring and educating young musicians. As a double bassist, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and Kodak Hall.
Ms. Chanphanitpornkit's education has taken her through Eastman School of Music, Columbia University Teachers College. She has taught musicians of all ages at William Paterson University, Columbia Univsersity, Manhattan School of Music, and more, and is the Director of the Crescendo Orchestra at New York Youth Symphony and the founder of Girls who Conduct. Learn more about Ms. Chanphanitpornkit from her recent bio published when she was acknowledged as one of Yamaha's 2025 40 Under 40 - Music Education Excellence.

Congratulations, Mr. Meyers
After 24 years at LaGuardia, our beloved Mr. Joseph Meyers, the Coordinator of Instrumental Music and the Conductor of the outstanding LaGuardia Philharmonic Orchestra, is retiring.
Thank you for your love and dedication to the students and your craft. Your legacy will be felt for years to come.

2025 Roger Rees Awards


Congratulations to the LaGuardia Into The Woods Pit Orchestra, directed by Kimberly Roof Arazosa and Dr. Valentina Shohdy, and Cantare directed by Jana Ballard on winning their first Roger Rees New York City Center Outstanding Student Orchestra Award.
Eighty greater New York City high schools participated in the 15th annual Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance for the 2024-25 school year.

LaGuardia Chamber Ensemble, DiLiT Brass Quintet
Finalists, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's 41st Annual Young Musicians Concert
Congratulations to the LaGuardia Chamber Ensemble, DiLiT Brass Quintet, under the direction of Kimberly Roof Arazosa.
On Thursday morning, May 8, 2025, DiLiT Brass Quintet represented LaGuardia High School and the region, as finalists in a celebration of musical excellence, as they performed in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's 41st Annual Young Musicians Concert.
The chamber ensemble performed Ewald's Brass Quintet No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 5 (1902), I. Moderato.

Manilow Music Project Teacher Award, Mr. Rocco Carbone
Barry Manilow has announced LaGuardia HS Music Teacher Rocco Carbone as one of the winners of his Manilow Music Project Teacher Award in New York City. Each teacher will receive a $10,000 grant from the Manilow Fund. The Manilow Music Project Award contest was created to support high school music teachers and bands throughout the US.
The Manilow Music project accepted nominations for outstanding music teachers across all five city boroughs and opened voting to the public. The five winning high schools will each receive $5000 in new band instruments for their school band and the winning teacher will receive another $5000 grant.
