SUBJECT: SNN 5/3, thank a teacher, run for something, raise your e-paddle!

Issue 33, May 3, 2026
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Sooo many ways to say "THANK YOU!"

Post-It Note Shout-Outs (Tuesday, May 5 – Thursday, May 7) before school in Lobby

Students can write shout-outs to their teachers and guidance counselors on post-it notes, which will be displayed near their respective departments.

Thank You Cards in the 5th floor Cafeteria (Wednesday, May 5)

During lunch periods, students will have the opportunity to write thank you cards to staff in the 5th floor cafeteria.

Send Appreciation Note Electronically

This opportunity is available all of the time HERE through DOE All Stars - parents and guardians can use this method as well, but must sign in as a GUEST to use the system.

Good old-fashioned emails to teachers and staff

Just send a regular email to your student's teachers (click HERE for contact list from LaG website). If the person you are looking for is not listed, you can send the note to their department AP or directly to Principal Marwah.

These messages, however they are sent, mean so much to our teachers and staff and really don't take a lot of time to do!

Show your love with a quick email!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The PA will also be thanking staff and teachers with a breakfast on Monday, two small gifts on Tuesday and Friday and a grab and go snack table on Thursday. So if you are writing an email, try and make it happen by Wednesday which we are calling Gratitude Day!

PA Elections Next Week - May 12

Become part of a great team and make a difference for our school by running for a position on the Parents Association Executive Board. Elections will be held on Tuesday, May 12 @ 7:45pm on Zoom HERE.

Meeting ID: 876 1458 0726
Passcode: 323011

Please note that to allow for a smooth meeting, we need each attendee to PRE-REGISTER using THIS link. Be sure to enter Parent/Guardian's name and the last 4 digits of your student's OSIS number. This information will be verified by our Parent Coordinator Tracy Ballas before each is approved to attend the meeting as you must be a parent/guardian to run/vote.

To learn more about PA Executive Board positions CLICK HERE.

  • All roles are open and eligible as co-roles. We highly encourage you to run as a slate with a partner. If you are interested but do not have someone you know to run with you, please let the election chair know. We are happy to pair up interested people!
  • The roles of Third Vice-President - Fundraising Events & Annual Appeal & Fifth Vice-President - Productions are FUNDRAISING roles and they require you to build teams of volunteers. The NET profit target goals are approximately $400-500K for the Annual Appeal and $40-$50K for each of the Auction/Benefit, the All School Musical and Rising Stars. Please run for these positions keeping those goals in mind. Please do not run for these positions with the expectation that your child is getting cast in any of the shows or that you are just throwing a fun party. While we do have a great time, these initiatives exist to RAISE MONEY FOR THE SCHOOL.
  • We are also seeking anyone interested in an Co-Assistant Treasurer role who can act as a fiduciary with signatory capabilities. Especially seeking a class of 2028 or 2029 parent who can transition in the Treasurer role as our current Treasurers graduate.

Let's keep it going, community. Our paddle raise to support LaGuardia's clubs is ongoing until June 30. Remember that we need to raise $80,000 (we're only at $12,250!) to cover the costs of advisors for the clubs along with some additional funding.

ACADEMIC FORUM

academicforum@laguardiahspa.org

As we hit the final marking period, the collective energy shifts. Between AP exams and Regents, the household vibe can feel a bit like a pressure cooker. But spring is finally here, and it is the perfect time to help our students find their second wind.

Persistence right now isn't about grinding until they are burnt out; it is about steady, mindful momentum. While the weight of external expectations is real, we can help them pivot toward what actually sparks their interest. When a student leans into their own curiosity - whether it is a specific scientific theory, a historical era, or a creative project - the "must-dos" of the season become a little lighter.

Encourage them to follow those threads of genuine discovery. It is a powerful reminder that while these exams are significant milestones, they are only snapshots in time. They don't define a student’s full potential or their future success.

Let’s help them finish the year strong by prioritizing their well-being and their natural love for learning over the noise of "shoulds." They have put in the work all year long. Now, as the finish line nears, let’s give them the space to breathe, stay curious, and trust the process. We are almost there.

CURTAIN DOWN ON NOISES OFF

Massive bravo to the cast of Noises Off — you pulled it off, doors, sardines and all. And to the volunteers who showed up across the weekend: we literally couldn't do this without you. Every ticket scanned, every concession sold, every door slammed on cue helps us pour more money back into PODS and into the productions that make the Drama Studio what it is. Thank you.

Next up — and last up for the year: Macbeth, May 29–31. Volunteer sign-ups and tickets coming soon. Stay tuned.

PODS SPRING SOCIAL

You survived Noises Off! and Urinetown. You hauled merch, ran the concessions table, and pretended you weren't sniffling at curtain call. You've earned a drink at a bar called Brazen - frankly, the name does half our marketing for us.

THURSDAY, MAY 7 @ 7:00pm at Brazen Tavern, 356 West 44th Street. Come hang. RSVP HERE so we know to save you a spot.

MAY 18: NOW CASTING NEXT YEAR’S BOARD!

Mark your calendars: our next PODS meeting is Monday, May 18 @ 7:00pm. We'll also vote on open board positions, meaning this is the meeting where you decide who runs the show next year. Or, even better, raise your hand to BE one of the people running the show next year. Several spots are opening up and we genuinely need you. See them HERE. Pick one you love. Then come on May 18 and grab the role of your dreams.

ONE LAST CURTAIN CALL

Join us for "The Final Bow: For the Drama Studio", the LaGuardia HS Drama Class of 2026 takes the stage one final time at the iconic Players Theatre in Greenwich Village. All funds raised go directly to the Drama Studio. Open exclusively to the Class of 2026 Drama Seniors. Monday, June 8, 2026 at 7:00pm. Sign-up deadline: May 11, 2026. Only 30 slots available. Sign up HERE. Ticket info coming soon.

DANCE GRADUATION CONCERT

The Dance Graduation Concert is 3 weeks away -- May 29, 30 and 31st -- and we could not be more excited! Here's what we need from you:

  • Buy tickets and share out ticket information with people in your network. Let's fill that theater!
  • Please consider sponsoring a piece. Presenting a concert of this caliber comes with real costs, and many pieces are still missing sponsorships with time running out. If the full investment is not possible, we are absolutely open to families co-sponsoring a piece together. We also encourage you to share this with friends, family, and businesses who might want to support our young artists. ONLY ONE MORE WEEK TO SPONSOR!

THINKING AHEAD FOR NEXT YEAR

Kristin and Cindy are both parents of seniors, and the show must go on! A huge thank you to the Art Studio parents who have already informed us of your interest in the Co-Rep role for next year. If there are others out there who may be thinking about it, please let us know at art@laguardiahspa.org. In addition to the Co-Rep roles, the studio will also need an Art PA Webmaster. This could be you! Help will also be needed next year in the areas of organizing the merch sales, as well as communications. If you want to help in these areas next year, please let us know!

THE ART STUDIO STILL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT THIS YEAR

The LaGuardia Art Studio relies heavily on the support of our parents and guardians to help fund essential art supplies and materials for our students. If you have not already donated for the 2025-2026 school year, now is a perfect time! Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and every contribution helps! Please click HERE to donate.

Please feel free to email us anytime at: art@laguardiahspa.org. We'd love to hear from you!

Have a great week ahead!
