FIRST PA MEETING - THIS WEDNESDAY On Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00pm, join the Parents Association in the Little Flower Theater at LaGuardia for the first in-person meeting of the school year. We only do TWO in-person meetings per year, so you really don't want to miss this one. - At the meeting you will: Hear from Principal Marwah, find out what's happening from the studio representatives, learn more about Academic Forum, and vote in the PA Election to fill open positions.
- Oh, and Merch! Get that LaG Swag before the meeting begins at the LaGuardia PA Pre-Meeting pop-up shop, from 5:00pm to 5:45pm. Check out a limited selection of items, and support your studio and the Parents Association. Don't be late: the shop is only open until 5:45pm!
- Have a question you would like to ask the Principal or the Parents Association? We got you! Use the form linked HERE to submit your questions before the meeting.
- Elections: Interested in running for an open position? Check out the open positions in the section below and come to the PA meeting to cast your vote.
- Want to share the role with another parent? Good idea! The Third Vice President of Fundraising and the Freshman Class Rep. are roles that can be shared between two PA members. Find someone at the meeting who wants to share the role with you and run as a slate, it will be great! - Can't make it to the meeting to cast your ballot, but want to nominate yourself for a position? We got you! Send an email to: elections@laguardiahspa.org with your name, the graduating year of your student, the studio they are enrolled in, and the position you would like to be nominated for. You may include a short statement (90 seconds or less) which will be read on your behalf at the meeting. Nominations via email will be accepted until Wednesday, September 23 at 11:59am. Nominations will be accepted in-person during the PA meeting. Remember, the best way to get elected is to attend the PA Meeting on September 23 in-person.

Help Keep Academics Center Stage at LaGuardia The Academic Forum was created to ensure that, alongside LaGuardia’s exceptional focus on the arts, academics receive the attention they deserve. Its parent representatives advocate for students’ academic interests, organize informational sessions, and work with faculty and administrators on academic issues and college planning. Two representative positions are open (one is specifically for a freshman parent). Interested parents can nominate themselves at this Wednesday’s PA meeting and a vote will follow!
Please Continue to Have Patience The Guidance Counselors / Programming office have received nearly 900 change requests! They waited to get them all in until the drop/add form closed (Tuesday, September 15) and only began processing general requests after that. They’re working through them in this order: - Legally mandated changes (IEPs and English Language Learner services)
- Seniors who need courses to meet graduation requirements
- Studio placements
- Errors and documented special circumstances (for example, a student with diabetes who needs a different lunch period)
They’re doing their absolute best and have until this week to complete the changes and balance class sizes. If your child has submitted a request, there’s no need to follow up or resubmit—repeated emails and office visits are adding to the congestion and will only slow down the process. Thank you for your patience and please remember to have your student check NYCSA each morning, since changes will appear there first. And going forward, please remember that spring course selections really matter because the number of sections offered is built around those choices. Thank you! |
