SUBJECT: SNN 9/13, First PA Meeting, Cool Shirts, and More!

Issue 2, September 13, 2026

A huge THANK YOU to all the parents volunteering their time, effort, and energy to help bring the excellent LaGuardia vibes to orientation, staff breakfast, and the first day of school. LaGuardia is a special place, and when folks step up to volunteer their time and energy it really shows. Here's to keeping LaGuardia World Class!

First PA & Studio Meetings

During the next few weeks studio representatives from the Parents Association will be holding their first meetings to introduce themselves and share what's coming up next for your student and from their studio. These meetings are the best first chances to plug in and get connected with what is being planned and what you need to know! You won't want to miss them!

Then, on Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00pm, join the entire Parents Association in the Little Flower Theatre at LaGuardia for the first in-person meeting of the 2026-27 school year.

  • Meet fellow Parents!
  • Say "Hello!" to your Executive Board!
  • Hear from every studio representative!
  • Learn about the ways the Parents Association enriches the LaGuardia community!
  • Get the inside scoop from Principal Marwah!
  • Learn more about the Academic Forum!
  • Let your voice be heard and vote in the Fall PA Elections!
  • Nominate yourself and run for an open Parents Association position and get yourself elected!
  • Worried you might not be able to do it all by yourself? Don't stress: we got you! Many roles can be shared between two parents- so grab another parent and run as a slate so you can partner together.

Open Positions & Responsibilities

PA Executive Board Positions:

Freshman Class Representative (can be a shared Co-Rep!)

  • Serves to represent the interests and concerns of 9th grade parents attending LaGuardia.
  • Communicates information relevant to each specific grade from the school to parents, and vice versa.
  • May host events that promote interaction among members of their grade in order to promote better communication among parents and between the school and parents.

Third Vice President: Fundraising Events & Annual Appeal (can be a shared Co-Rep!)

  • Responsible for all events and programs sponsored by and/or intended to raise funds for the PA, including but not limited to the PA Annual Appeal, and the Gala and Annual Benefit.
  • Responsible for ensuring that each event has a revenue target, that the plans to raise those funds are realistic, and that the expenses for the event adhere to the planned budget.
  • Responsible for building teams which support the initiatives referenced above.

Academic Forum (2 open positions, 1 reserved for a freshman parent member; no Co-Rep allowed)

  • Represent the academic interests of all parents and students and support the school's academic and administrative faculty.
  • Convene regular meetings to plan and provide informational sessions open to all PA members regarding academic matters of interest and post-secondary placement.

Non-Executive Board Position

School Leadership Team (SLT) (1 position reserved for a freshman parent member; no Co-Rep allowed)

  • The SLT is a group consisting of parents, faculty/administrators, and students, who assist in the ongoing development and revision of educational policies such as the CEP (The Comprehensive Education Plan) for their school. To learn more about the SLT click HERE.
  • The SLT meets in person once a month.
NYCSA (New York City Schools Account) Access

We recognize that not all incoming families are receiving school emails yet. The LaGuardia administration team is working diligently to assist families setting up their NYCSA accounts. If you do not have an account, Dr. Ballas will be reaching out to assist. If you are experiencing a delay receiving your account creation code, please be patient as the team may need to troubleshoot different systems to identify the issue and communicate with families on how to resolve any potential problems. Please be patient while the folks at LaGuardia work through this process.

As a reminder, parents with NYCSA access can reset their students' email password by navigating to the settings (gear wheel). Visit: https://www.schoolsaccount.nyc/.

If you have updated your NYCSA account and are not receiving the Yellow Sheet or other official communications from LaGuardia via email, or if you need assistance with your NYCSA account please contact Dr. Tracy Ballas, LaGuardia H.S. Parent Coordinator at tballas@schools.nyc.gov.

Looking for a way to directly impact the Parents Association's bottom line?

Be on the lookout for volunteer sign ups to help the PA sell snacks and drinks to the (hungry and thirsty) parents attending the 2026 Manhattan High School Fair on Saturday, September 26 & Sunday, September 27 at LaGuardia H.S. This event is for seventh and eighth grade students and their families to learn more about the schools and programs available in Manhattan. Save the date, and be on the lookout for volunteer sign-ups!

👀 Deadlines & Applications Matter!

The Yellow Sheet includes more than school news—look closely each week for student opportunities, programs, applications and deadlines. Junior year is a good time to explore enrichment programs, internships, scholarships, college-prep opportunities and ways to build your student’s experience outside the classroom.

💻 Don't Forget Maia

Juniors should be getting comfortable with MaiaLearning now. Encourage your student to keep their profile current and self-report volunteer/community service activities as they complete them. It will make preparing for senior year much easier!

⭐️ Junior Tip: Don’t wait until senior year to start keeping track of accomplishments, activities, awards, performances, volunteer work and leadership experiences.

First POTS (Parents of Tech Students) PA Meeting

IN-PERSON Meet and Greet with Kim Bruno, Director of Drama + Technical Theater Studios.

More on Tech

🚨 Be on the lookout for Tech Amazon Wish List being published this week. Teachers are adding to it now and hoping families can contribute to various needs for the studio. Donating through the Amazon Wish List is a great way to help our studio supply the things we need for our kids to build and create.

❓Any questions please reach out to us (Melissa and Shira) at tech@laguardiahspa.org. In these first two POTS meetings we hope to cover what to expect in the first weeks at LaGuardia for new families as well as returning families at each grade level with a brief overview of the year ahead!

The New Vocal Risers Arrive (but not yet Risen)!

You may remember that at the end of the last school year we held a ‘Fundraising Finale’ to fulfill AP Schott’s wishes for the Studio. With so many of you participating and contributing we were able to raise over $10,000 in just over a week!

These funds have now been put towards new vocal risers and harp servicing. And we are happy to announce that on Friday the risers arrived.

Thank you again to all of you who donated and who continue to donate to the Music Studio PA.

First in person Music Studio PA Meeting September 30, 6:00-7:30pm (to be confirmed)

Please join us, in person, to meet fellow parents, hear from AP Schott, ask questions, meet the PA and buy merch. Refreshments (and musical performances) will be provided.

At this first meeting, we’ll also hold elections for remaining open Drama PA Board positions- freshman class rep(s), fundraising team, and senior class reps. No prior PA experience is needed! Questions or interest in joining? Email drama@laguardiahspa.org.

A quick update: Drama AP Kim Bruno and Drama Studio Coordinator Mr. Stafford, previously scheduled to join our September 15 meeting, will instead meet Drama families in person at our first PODS social on Wednesday, September 30. Save the date! More details coming soon.

IMPORTANT: Senior Headshots Coming Up

Senior families must complete THIS Google form by Monday, September 14. This is required to participate and will allow the photography studio to create each senior’s signup link and personal portal for scheduling and selecting headshots.

Picture Day: Saturday, October 3
Makeup Day: Monday, October 12 (for students who truly cannot attend on October 3; this is not a retake).

Please see Saturday’s email to senior families for additional important senior information.
