Seven weeks to go! Our paddle raise to support LaGuardia's clubs is ongoing until June 30. Remember that we need to raise $80,000 (we're STILL only at 12% of the way!) to cover the costs of advisors for the clubs along with some additional funding.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Early Dismissal Procedure Reminder: For last-minute or emergency requests, a parent/guardian must come to the school in person to sign the student out.

Scheduled Medical Appointments

We encourage families to schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. When an early dismissal is unavoidable:

  • Notification: Please email the Attendance Office by 8:00am on the day of the appointment.
  • Emergency Pickup: For last-minute or emergency requests, a parent/guardian must come to the school in person to sign the student out.

Illness During the School Day

If a student feels unwell during class, they must obtain a pass from their teacher and report directly to the Medical Office (Room 247).

  • Assessment: The school nurse will evaluate the student to determine if they should return to class or be dismissed.
  • Release: If dismissal is necessary, the nurse will contact the parent/guardian to arrange for a safe exit (parent pickup, independent release, or EMS if required).

Important Policy Clarification

The Medical Office is dedicated to providing clinical care and expertise for students in need of health services. To maintain the integrity of our attendance records and ensure medical staff can focus on urgent needs, the Medical Office should not be used as a bypass for standard early dismissal procedures. We are currently reviewing these workflows between the Attendance and Medical Offices to improve the experience for our families. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and our records accurate.

CALL TO ORDER, MONDAY NIGHT, 7:30 SHARP

Our next PODS meeting tomorrow, May 18 at 7:30 pm, and it's a good one! A few of our seniors will pull back the curtain on the college process - the auditions, the agony, the acceptances - followed by a Q&A where you can ask them anything (within reason… they've been through enough).

Then the real drama begins – PODS BOARD ELECTIONS. This is the part where democracy meets community theater, and it is gloriously low-stakes and high-reward. If you're eyeing an open position, or you'd like to be nominated for a specific one - you still have time to email drama@laguardiahspa.org and then actually show up to the meeting. Nominations love an audience. The link to the meeting is HERE.

THE SCOTTISH PLAY NEEDS YOU (LAST CALL OF THE YEAR)

SDF #3: Macbeth (we can say it here, you just can’t say it in the theater), May 29–31. The final Spring Drama Festival show of the year, which means it's the last time we get to do this together until the fall (some of us never again), so let's send it off properly.

We need volunteers the way Macbeth needed a better life coach. Badly.

Sign up HERE.

And then buy tickets HERE.

ONE LAST CURTAIN CALL

Join us for "The Final Bow: For the Drama Studio," as the LaGuardia HS Drama Class of 2026 takes the stage one final time at Greenwich Village’s iconic Players Monday, June 8, 2026 at 7:00pm. Every dollar raised goes directly to the Drama Studio. All performance slots are filled (our seniors do not need to be asked twice), so the only thing left to do is grab your tickets and come watch them go out the way they came in - loudly, generously, and with excellent timing.

Grab your tickets HERE.

CASTING CALL: CLASS REPS FOR 2027

We need 2–4 parent volunteers to help make next year a triumph for our incoming seniors. The job is part cheerleader, part logistics, fully appreciated. Reply if you're in. Speaking of next year, SAVE THE DATE for our incoming senior headshots, an expense PODS happily covers, because a senior deserves to look like a star.

More details to come, but current junior PODS, mark your calendars now:

  • Picture Day: Saturday, October 3
  • Makeup Day: Monday, October 12
