| Deadline extended to April 17th! Why Your Survey Matters: Direct Impact: Your responses directly influence how we allocate resources, design academic programs, and create support services for your child. Critical Decision-Making: School leaders use this data to reflect on your feedback and make important decisions about programming that affects your child's daily experience. Every Voice Counts: Without your input, we lack the full picture of what our school community needs.
How to Complete the Survey - Visit NYCSchoolSurvey.org.
- Choose a preferred language.
- Enter the correct access code: lowercase "f" followed by your child's 9-digit Student ID (OSIS) number (example: f123456789). You can access your child's 9-digit OSIS number online through Jupiter or your New York City Schools Account (NYCSA). It is vital to put the "f" before the OSIS number to fill out the survey, without the correct access code, you will be incorrectly filling out the form.
- Complete and submit the survey.
Note that you can also just log on to your NYCSA account and access survey from there (and no need to enter OSIS then).
Need Assistance? Please contact our Parent Coordinator, Tracy, at tballas@schools.nyc.gov or 646-450-4513 for any help you need.

Building a college list can feel overwhelming, but with the right approach, it becomes an empowering process that leads to more options—and better outcomes. A balanced college list typically includes 8–12 schools across three categories: • Reach schools: colleges where admission is less likely (often with admit rates below ~25% or where a student’s academic profile falls below the typical admitted range) • Target (match) schools: colleges where a student’s GPA, course rigor, and test scores align closely with the middle 50% of admitted students • Likely (safety) schools: colleges where a student’s academic profile is stronger than the average admitted student, making admission very likely
Creating this balance isn’t about limiting ambition - it’s about maximizing opportunity and ensuring great choices.
A helpful concept in this process is the Academic Index (AI). While families won’t calculate it directly, it reflects how colleges assess academic readiness using grades, rigor, and testing. At some highly selective institutions, a version of this index is used early to determine which applications receive a full review. Understanding this helps students build lists where they are academically competitive - so their full story can be seen.
Families can also gain valuable insight from each college’s Common Data Set (CDS). This publicly available report shows how schools weigh factors like grades, test scores, demonstrated interest, and talent/ability. This is especially important for students at LaGuardia Arts High School, whose artistic achievements may be a meaningful part of their application. At colleges that value talent highly, a student’s artistic portfolio or achievements can play a significant role in the admissions process.
Most importantly, a strong list centers on fit: academic programs, campus environment, location, and affordability. When students apply to schools where they both belong and thrive academically, the result is a balanced list filled with real possibilities.
The takeaway: understanding academic positioning, using tools like the CDS, and prioritizing fit leads to a smarter list - and a more confident, hopeful admissions journey. |

Dear Dance Families, Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful and restorative break. We return to school only six weeks away from our Graduation Dance Concert, and we need your help! Please see the below note from Mr. Sinacori, and consider sponsoring a piece. "It has been so exciting to see your dancers in the studio as they prepare for the Graduation Dance Concert; they are committing completely alongside their choreographers, and their growth and maturity as artists is immensely gratifying to witness. The Graduation Dance Concert is the culminating event of their LaGuardia journey, and we have gone to great lengths to assemble an extraordinary group of choreographers for this final production. Presenting a concert of this caliber does come with real costs, and many pieces are still missing sponsorships with time running out. . . . If the full investment is not possible, we are absolutely open to families co-sponsoring a piece together. We also encourage you to share this with friends, family, and businesses who might want to support our young artists. However you are able to help, it means a great deal to us and to your dancers. Warm regards, Mr. Sinacori"
9th grade families: This will be your children in three short years! Every penny donated helps us ensure this concert is funded adequately this year, and in the years to follow.
10th and 11th grade families: Your dancers are inching closer to this exciting moment. Ask them what piece they are most excited to watch! And consider supporting that piece as a sponsor.
12th grade families: This is it! Your last chance to support and watch your children dance at LaGuardia. Pretty please, if you are able to sponsor, or co-sponsor a piece, email us and let us know.
With gratitude, Katie & Barbette |
