SUBJECT: SNN 3/29, Donate an Item to the Auction, Complete Survey, and more!

Issue 29, March 29, 2026

There are so many of you to thank, we would need an entire SNN just to list all of your names. And that is part of what makes our LaG community so special. Tremendous appreciation to each of you who was able to help, whether in person or in the many other tasks necessary to make the whole event the HUGE success it was, to welcome hundreds of new families in the Fall.

ANNUAL GALA NEWS

AND REMEMBER TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKET!

DON'T DELAY.

GET IT HERE NOW.

Why Your Survey Matters:

Direct Impact: Your responses directly influence how we allocate resources, design academic programs, and create support services for your child.

Critical Decision-Making: School leaders use this data to reflect on your feedback and make important decisions about programming that affects your child's daily experience.

Every Voice Counts: Without your input, we lack the full picture of what our school community needs.

How to Complete the Survey (Deadline is April 1)

  1. Visit NYCSchoolSurvey.org.
  2. Choose a preferred language.
  3. Enter the correct access code: lowercase "f" followed by your child's 9-digit Student ID (OSIS) number (example: f123456789). You can access your child's 9-digit OSIS number online through Jupiter or your New York City Schools Account (NYCSA). It is vital to put the "f" before the OSIS number to fill out the survey, without the correct access code, you will be incorrectly filling out the form.
  4. Complete and submit the survey.

Note that you can also just log on to your NYCSA account and access survey from there (and no need to enter OSIS then).

BRAG SHEET CRASH COURSE: A Guide for Parents/Students

While supplemental essays vary by school, the Common App lists and letters of recommendation are universal. A Brag Sheet is the strategic blueprint that ensures these components work together to tell a cohesive story.

One Document, Three Audiences

A strong brag sheet serves more than just the student; it equips their support team with the "connective tissue" needed for a standout college application:

  • Guidance Counselors: They need the "big picture" for their recommendation. Provide them with stats (GPA, SATs, APs), a current college list, and a brief "why" for each school to clarify the student’s academic direction.
  • Teachers: They need classroom-specific memories. A dedicated page for each teacher—recalling engagement, curiosity, and specific "triumphs" in their class—allows them to write a letter that is personal rather than generic.
  • Common App: It serves as a working draft for the official activity and honors sections.

Tips for High-Impact Lists

To drive a more effective narrative, focus on these list-building strategies:

  • Quantify Impact: Shift from tasks to outcomes. Instead of "organized meetings," use "Managed weekly logistics for 40+ members to improve club retention."
  • Show Growth: Document the vertical trajectory and increased responsibility from 9th through 12th grade.
  • Strategic Traits: Identify descriptive personality words that resonate. Weaving these traits into the brag sheet helps recommenders convey the student’s unique "learning style" and community contribution.

Starting this process early in a spreadsheet helps manage strict character counts and ensures no achievement is overlooked.

URINE GOOD COMPANY

Bravo to the cast, crew, and families of Urinetown! What an incredible production. We are so proud of our seniors for bringing this one home in spectacular fashion. A massive thank you to all of our volunteers throughout the production, and to our SDF team and senior parent reps - we literally couldn't do this without the support of PODS. A special shoutout to the parent volunteers from other studios who selflessly came out to help fill our volunteer needs. That's the kind of cross-studio solidarity that makes this community what it is. We are so grateful, if you were on a stage right now, we’d be tossing roses at your feet.

WHAT'S ALL THAT NOISE? IS SOMETHING OFF?

Nope. It’s just the raucous comedic sounds of our SDF #2: Noises Off! Performing 4 shows from April 30 - May 2. Be on the lookout for ticket sales and the volunteer sign-up soon. If you haven't seen this play before, just know: there are sardines, slamming doors, and very little going according to plan. Basically, a PODS meeting.

Speaking of…

PODS PEOPLE, ASSEMBLE

Our next PODS meeting is THIS Monday, March 30th at 7:30 PM on Zoom. Couch, kitchen table, in the back of a car on the FDR, we don't judge. All you need is THIS link, and just in case this info too:

Dear Dance families,

We hope that your students enjoyed their experience with guest artist Gregory Lau and their field trip over to Juilliard to see Spring Dances. Thank you to the chaperones who volunteered to accompany our dancers on this fun field trip.

We also welcomed our newly admitted students at the Open House! The future is bright! Thank you to the many parents who stepped up to help us sell gear and greet families.

And...at the risk of sounding like a broken record, we hope that you will consider supporting our seniors and choreographers who are hard at work preparing pieces for the graduation dance concert. Once again, many of these pieces are lacking key sponsorships!

9th grade families: This will be your children in three short years! Every penny donated helps us ensure this concert is funded adequately this year, and in the years to follow.

10th and 11th grade families: Your dancers are inching closer to this exciting moment. Ask them what piece they are most excited to watch! And consider supporting that piece as a sponsor.

12th grade families: This is it! Your last chance to support and watch your children dance at LaGuardia. Pretty please, if you are able to sponsor, or co-sponsor a piece, email us and let us know.

You can learn more about how to support HERE. Please participate if you are able, and share this information with friends, families and businesses who might be interested in supporting our young artists.

Warmly,

Katie & Barbette

ART CO-REPS NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR!

The school year is flying by, and we (both Cindy and Kristin!) are parents of seniors! We love our jobs as Art Co-Reps, but it’s only ours for a few more months. All that to say, if you’re thinking about running for Art Co-Rep next year, this is a GREAT time to let us know! We’d love to share our knowledge with the next Co-Reps to help create a smooth transition. If you’re thinking about it and want to learn more, please complete THIS form. We look forward to hearing from you!

Our wonderful Art PA Webmaster Yun Joo Shin also has a student graduating, so the Art PA will need a volunteer for that key role next year. If that’s of interest, please let us know HERE in the questions/comments field.

THE ART STUDIO STILL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

The LaGuardia Art Studio relies heavily on the support of our parents and guardians to help fund essential art supplies and materials for our students. If you have not already donated for the 2025-2026 school year, now is a perfect time! Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and every contribution helps! Please click HERE to donate.

Please feel free to email us anytime at: art@laguardiahspa.org. We'd love to hear from you!

Have a great week ahead!
