LaGuardia is a jewel in the NYC public school system and the most famous arts high school in the country. We are... - #1 public art school in New York City
- #15 in the nation according to Niche
- #43 among NYC Public High Schools
- #95 among New York State Public High Schools according to U.S. News & World Report
Keeping up our nationally renowned conservatory arts training and academic rigor requires far more money than NYC Public Schools gives to our school. Without your contributions many programs would not be possible. The PA funds go directly toward school productions, academic support, studio specific needs, athletics, clubs, college resources, graduation, school supplies, computer and lab equipment, teacher appreciation events, library books and so much more. Gifts of any amount are welcome and deeply appreciated! Our goal is 100% participation.
This Giving Tuesday, please help us reach our $500,000 goal! We are only 10% of the way...

We are grateful to the entire school community, the other PA Executive Board members and especially to Principal Deepak Marwah who gave his time recently to speak with the Academic Forum. It is clear that he is deeply committed to student growth, PA communication, and institutional strength. We look forward to more discussions and sharing those highlights with you.
And always surprised by how fast the school year flies by once the winter holidays are near, here are some key academic / testing dates along with upcoming breaks to keep in mind:
- Dec: This term's 2nd marking period ends December 5 (all assignments are due). Grades will be published about a week later, they will be cumulative for the term, and published as a numeric grade on the 100 scale.
- Jan: The 3rd and last marking period for the term is January 16. Monday, January 19 is the MLK Jr school holiday. The remainder of that week, January 20-24, is a Regents testing week. During Regents Exams testing periods, students only attend school if they are taking a specific exam OR they have a school scheduled event, such as rehearsals, juries, etc. Only off-schedule Regents Exams for Make Up or Retake are given in January. The January schedule can be found HERE.
- Feb: Mid-winter break is February 16-20.
- Mar: LaG will host sophomores taking PSAT and Juniors taking SAT on March 17.
- Apr: A long Spring Break is scheduled April 2-10.
- May: AP exams will take place May 4-15; the schedule can be found HERE.
- Jun: Regents exams will take place June 9, 10, 17, 18, 23, 24 & 25. That schedule can be found HERE.
LaG courses cover the full school year, so students are encouraged to use some of their time over breaks to review what they've learned thus far and enrich their learning with added outside resources. Here are some trusted resources, by subject: Science - Barrons; AP Science - College Board; Math - Khan Academy; History- Heimler's; AP English - MarcoLearning; Language - Duolingo.
One last reminder: registration for the next round of SAT and ACT prep we are offering through Academic Approach is Dec 7. See our Instagram page or last week's Sunday Night News (SNN) for all the details. |

If you have any unused yarn around the house please consider donating it to the Costume Shop! Donations will continue to be accepted this week, just have your student drop it off at the Costume Shop with Ms. Dombrowski.
SNACK DRIVE As rehearsals and work calls for the musical continue, snack replenishment is a continuous need. Help keep our crew well fed by checking out the snack requests on our Amazon Wish List HERE. Much appreciation to those who have donated yarn and snacks already, thank you!

A NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER November has been a big month for the Music Studio! We began with the Music Showcase at Hill Country. It was a sold out show of wonderful talent, raising not only our community spirits, but also some important funds for vital Music Studio projects. You can now watch videos of the inspiring performances HERE. We hope these videos can hold you over until our next Music Studio Showcase, coming to you in April!
Our second fundraising triumph was the Music Studio popcorn sale that ended last Wednesday after a surprise two day extension. Thanks to a little bit of popcorn enthusiasm and a lot of generosity, we managed to sell over $13k in popcorn, bringing in over $6500 for the Music Studio from over 200 supporters! Thank you all!
Extra special congratulations to our top 3 sellers: Rêve Cortizo-Burgess Sonya Houston Davin Williams
These three prolific popcorn peddlers combined for over a third of our total sales!
And Friday we capped off the month with Senior Chorus and Philharmonic Orchestra’s trip to the DiMenna Center for a workshop on film score recording. This was yet another sold out event. (Arguably three of them!) Thank you to Andrew Kay for bringing us the opportunity and to AP Ben Schott and Vanessa Enriquez for making it happen, as well as our teachers who prepared, rehearsed, and escorted the students. Thank you to all those who attended, and one more extra special thank you to our parent volunteer chaperones for keeping things moving smoothly. |
