LaG Students Rock!
They perform ......

Two weeks ago, a few lucky LaGuardia parents had the great privilege of seeing LaGuardia student Faith Cochrane in the lead role of Doris in Mama I Want to Sing.

This was the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the original off-broadway production which played for eight years and then toured nationally and internationally for two years.

Co-written, directed and produced by Vy Higgensen, this current version featured Vy and was directed by her daughter, Amaya Knoll. Amaya came to LaGuardia to audition students for the role of Doris, and selected Faith along with Elise Silva and Asa Sulton for a role that required a five-octave range!

LaGuardia choir director and voice teacher, Darryl Jordan, also made a cameo appearance. It was a thrill to see LaGuardia's talent shine in such a stellar professional capacity!

Congratulations to them and to Faith's own mama, Jeanette Cochrane, LaGuardia's wonderful PA Recording Secretary!

They win awards.......

It's no surprise that LaG students performed exceptionally well in the NYC Region of the Scholastic Art Awards–the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.

In total, LaG students received 273 Scholastic Art Awards across every category.

Congratulations to ALL!

---------

We are thrilled that FIVE LaG Students were named NATIONAL MEDALISTS!

Congratulations to GOLD medalists, Luna Baker-Stohlmann, Simone Vysnovsky, Darcie Wu and SLIVER medalists Haryn Kim and Cayla Kushner.

Fundraising
How to Support Our Community

Donate your time - Whether you’re available once a week, once a month, or once a year, please fill out our volunteer questionnaire so that we can reach out to you when an activity suits you. This will allow you to meet and team up with other LaG families who share your interests in our school. Go to our Volunteer Interests, Skills and Resources form here.

Annual Appeal - Your generosity helps LAGHSPA minimize the impact of long-standing NYC DOE budget gaps in our children’s education. LaG teachers and administrators work diligently to make the most of their budget, and the LaG PA provides necessary additional resources. To give online today click here.

Donor's Choose - Fund classroom projects and needs as requested by our teachers.  View our teacher's projects here

Specific Initiatives -  Funding for one-time initiatives or grade specific requests such as Graduation.

Many of the special supplies and materials teachers need to carry out their planned curriculum cannot be purchased through the DOE system and are cost prohibitive to both students and teachers. Our support is crucial to help fund these projects!

Let's keep the momentum going by helping to fund the following teacher's projects:

Ms. Riley needs enamel paint and wood panels, which will enable students to create paintings in a new style.

Mr. Abikzer needs cameras so the students can successfully complete the yearbook and continue covering events as they occur at school.

Ms. Klein needs banker boxes to move old files to a new place, so the file cabinets can be removed to make more space for the students and give them a safe, comfortable learning environment.

Ms. Laricchia needs a new reliable laptop to deliver fun, engaging lessons everyday for students studying world languages.

Mx. Shea needs woodworking tools and supplies to give her students the opportunity to learn and develop woodworking skills with a focus on lathe projects. (Be an early supporter!)

Please visit our DonorsChoose page and share with your family and friends.  Anyone can contribute and all donations are tax deductible.

Your contributions and/or sharing of these links is greatly appreciated!

DANCE

Hello Dance Parents and Guardians!

We had a terrific outing to Juilliard on Friday. Our dancers were a fantastic audience and got major shout-outs from the LAG alums now attending Juilliard.  It was an inspiring morning with LaGuardia Dance in the house and onstage!

This week our juniors in the Laguardia Dance Ensemble (LDE) will be performing at the Accepted Students Open House this Tuesday afternoon/evening.

If you missed parent-teacher conferences last Thursday/Friday and would like to connect with a Dance faculty member, please reach out to them directly - they are happy to get on the phone at any point.

**Please note there was a TYPO in our last email regarding the Senior Concert sponsorships - the Dance email was incorrect.  If you tried to email and didn’t get a response please reach out again by clicking dance@laguardiahspa.org here.  To read the full letter from Mr. Sinacori, please click here!

And always use the helpful links below if you have questions.

Best,

DRAMA

SPRING DRAMA FESTIVAL:

THE SPRING DRAMA FESTIVAL CONTINUES: YOU ON THE MOORS NOW, Mar. 28-31, 7:00pm, Little Flower Theater

The SDFs continue this week with You on the Moors Now, and the culminating experience of four years of drama training is finally here. Tickets are going fast, but the remaining ones can be purchased through the main LaG website.

LEND A HELPING HAND: VOLUNTEERS TO WORK THE SDFs STILL NEEDED

We are looking forward to the opening of You on the Moors Now this week. Parents, we still need you to step up and take on some crucial volunteer roles, especially parents of Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students! There are still three more productions this spring, and if you are looking for a fun way to get involved and meet other LaG Drama parents, please consider taking on one of the following tasks: 1) Concessions “Captain” for SDFs: We need one parent/guardian (or team) to be in charge of organizing the concessions for each production; 2) Concessions Sales: sell snacks before SDF performances and during intermission—easy and fun; 3) Deliver snacks to the actors on rehearsal “blackout” days...
