BSU Student Club - Movie Review

Following their group outing to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, LaGuardia's Black Student Union met to discuss the film.

It was a crowd favorite, and instigated many ideas about the importance of representation in media, Afro-Futurism and the idea of a Black Utopia, and how interactions between black and brown communities are represented in the media.

The BSU was delighted to have had this opportunity to see Black Panther as a group, and to continue to strengthen our bond as a community. To learn more about the BSU follow them at @lagbsu

Rising Stars Update

Students:

As we get closer to finalizing plans for Rising Stars 2023 (more details will follow), we're mindful that you may need time and space to collaborate and/or to record your audition or filmed act. All talents and types of acts are welcome! Groups and unique acts help to involve more students and create a dynamic show.

Please fill out this form by noon on Saturday, 12/17 if you have an idea for a group act but need help finding collaborators; if you'd like the PA's help reserving and/or paying for a rehearsal space during Winter Break (12/26-12/30); and/or if you need any equipment to record your audition or filmed act (such as a short film or time lapse / speed art), etc.

Parents/Guardians:

If you can help arrange free or discounted rehearsal space in any borough during Winter Break, please email: risingstars@laguardiahspa.org. Note: LAGHSPA is a 501c3 that qualifies for nonprofit rates. In exchange for deeper discounts, we can offer a complimentary ad in the RS2023 program.

How to Support Our Community

Donate your time - Whether you’re available once a week, once a month, or once a year, please fill out our volunteer questionnaire so that we can reach out to you when an activity suits you. This will allow you to meet and team up with other LaG families who share your interests in our school. Go to our Volunteer Interests, Skills and Resources form here.

Annual Appeal - Your generosity helps LAGHSPA minimize the impact of long-standing NYC DOE budget gaps in our children’s education. LaG teachers and administrators work diligently to make the most of their budget, and the LaG PA provides necessary additional resources. To give online today click here.

Donor's Choose - Fund classroom projects and needs as requested by our teachers.  View our teacher's projects here

Specific Initiatives -  Funding for one-time initiatives or grade specific requests such as Graduation.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We are on a roll! Four projects were successfully funded this week!

Mr. Rahman is receiving a wireless color laser multifunction printer, Mr. Abikzer is receiving a new laptop, Ms. Klein is receiving books to create a small student library and Mrs. McGoey is receiving swim caps for students to draw brain diagrams for neuropsychology review.

Let's keep the momentum going and help fund these projects:

Ms. Riley would like to replenish the painting supplies for students

Mrs. McGoey would like sheep brains and cow eyes for in-depth cognitive psychology studies.

Please visit our DonorsChoose page and share with your family and friends.  Anyone can contribute and all donations are tax deductible.

Your contribution and/or sharing of these links is greatly appreciated!
