Wow! This is it - the end of another school year!

Thank you to everyone who attended our last two Music Studio General Meetings - our election meeting on June 12th and our June 22nd meeting with special guest, AP Ben Schott, who explained the new bell schedule for fall 2023. Below are links to the meeting minutes.

What an incredible year it has been! 

Once again, we'd like to extend an enormous amount of gratitude to our music studio community for all of your support this school year. The Music Studio Board couldn't do it without you. 

We work together in pursuit of a dream of excellence for our educational institutions that translates into rewarding experiences for our children, through our dedication and support. Together, we can accomplish great things!

CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2023!

On Thursday, June 22nd, the Music Studio celebrated the seniors one final time with a luncheon of burrito bowl assortments, salad, guacamole, tortilla chips, churros, and brownies from La Palapa Cocina Mexicana (LaG parent - THANK YOU!). Finishing it off with chocolate and vanilla  2023 cakes!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this happen!

Congratulations class of 2023! We are excited to see the places you will go, and we wish you the very best as you journey out into the world!

I applaud every single student for the hard work and dedication you have shown to your craft this school year. You should be proud of what you have achieved, and now it is time to take a little break. 

Thank you to the parents of the music studio community for your constant support, which makes my job just a little bit easier.

Wishing you the very best summer filled with fun, excitement, rest, relaxation and continued growth as many of you continue working on music throughout the summer.

Summer, Summer, Summertime...

In our last MM, we asked you, the music studio community to share your summer plans with us.

Here's what you said:

  • attending VIA Music Academy in Miami, FL
  • Relax and reconnect with family, friends, food, drinks and culture in our home country France !! 
  • Working Summer rising, 730-1230, off on Fridays! 7/21-7/28 Cruise! 
  • Work and Travel! Travel and work no particularly order. Have a great summer!. 
  • I'm planning to sit back and relax and try to enjoy far less zoom meetings in my life. And also listen to my daughter as she learns several new woodwind instruments! 
  • off to France then chasing my daughter in schools all summer from London to NYU then college Prep!
  • fun at French Woods camp, then family trip to Argentina!
  • attending Interlochen

No matter what you do, have fun, take time to relax and rejuvenate and enjoy the summer! Safe travels to all.

PARABLE OF THE SOWER ART-MAKING WORKSHOP AT LINCOLN CENTER

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is inviting 6 rising 12th grade students from LaGuardia to take part in an art-making workshop inspired by the new opera adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower premiering at David Geffen Hall on July 14, 2023.

Participants of the workshop will work with Lincoln Center Teaching Artists and William R. Kenan, Jr. Fellows in an inquiry-based experience inspired by the work of art.

There are 6 available spots for applicants who have an interest in composition, singing, or theater-making and are curious about investigating the process for adapting this classic Afro-futurist novel through music and live theatrical storytelling.

Workshop Information:

Date: Friday, July 14, 2023

Location: Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts 

  • 3pm-6pm: Attend a pre-performance workshop with Lincoln Center Teaching Artists
  • 6pm-7pm: Dinner (provided by Lincoln Center)

  • 7:30pm: Attend Performance at David Geffen Hall (pending availability)

SUMMER ROCK BAND CAMP 2023

Make Music, Make Friends, & Play Live on Stage in NYC

Grow as a person and a musician in NYC's longest runing rock band summer camp. Play in a band and perform on stage at a club here in NYC!

  • Program for all levels: Rock Band 101, Rock Band, or Rock Band & Recording.
  • Advanced students compose & record original music as a band in the unique Rock Band and Recording program
  • Two Week Sessions: 7/5 - 7/14, 7/17 - 7/28, & 7/31 - 8/11

NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY

Founded in 1963, the NYYS is internationally recognized for its award-winning and innovative educational programs for talented young musicians. It was awarded the 2022 Grammy for Best Orchestral Performance - Classical, the first youth orchestra to win a Grammy in this category. FROM THE TOP Scholarship Opportunity

For any dedicated young musicians with financial need, in need of funds to support an instrument purchase, regular private lessons, or summer program tuition, students can apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. From the Top’s need-based award of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship.

  • High School seniors graduating in 2024 must apply by November 15, 2023 in order to be considered for the award before graduation.


NYU MPAP SUMMER PROGRAMS

The NYU Steinhardt Music and Performing Arts Professions Summer Programs include the following options for students: Jazz Improv and Composers Workshop, Percussion, Strings, Brass Workshop, Woodwind Intensive, Piano Intensive, Vocal Performance Intensive, Screen Scoring Workshop, Songwriters Workshop, Musical Theatre Conducting Intensive, Music Technology Intensive, Music Business: What Makes a Star. Jazz Vocal Workshop

Yaala Ballin is an Israeli-born jazz vocalist who has performed in prestigious jazz venues throughout New York City and has toured all over the world. Yaala leads Master Classes in New York, Europe and Israel, and is currently an Instructor at Magnus, The New School in NYC.  

Recently, Yaala conducted a Master Class for LaGuardia’s Jazz Vocal Club.  Yaala will be offering Jazz Vocal Workshops that can help any vocalist in their performance of song. This is a special opportunity for LaGuardia Students.
