Spring Semi-Annual Concert
LaGuardia Music Studio Highlights
Congratulations LaGuardia Bands!

On Wednesday May 17th, the LaGuardia High School Symphonic Band, conducted by Kimberly Roof, and Wind Symphony, conducted by David Blumenthal, took their show on the road to the Grand Street Campus High School in Brooklyn. Over 130 students who comprise the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony performed at the NYSSMA Majors Festival, where they were adjudicated by two judges, receiving written and recorded feedback on their performance. Over four days, there were 50 ensembles who performed at this festival.

The Symphonic Band performed a program featuring Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, Diamond Tide by Viet Cuong, and Salt March by Aakash Mittal. They received a Gold for their outstanding performance. The Wind Symphony performed a program featuring Midway March by John Williams, Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold and Of Our New Day Begun by Omar Thomas. They received a Gold, with Distinction, for their fantastic performance. This was an exciting day for the LaGuardia community!

"We are of course proud of our students, their performance and our programming! Furthermore, we all had the most fun traveling together to our performance venue and spending time together, enjoying each other not only as a LaGuardia community, but as members of the NYC music-student community." ~Kimberly Roof

Congratulations LaGuardia Gospel Choir!

On Tuesday, May 23rd, the LaGuardia Gospel Choir and Band performed at Tweed Courthouse, the Department of Education's headquarters, as they celebrated the release of their annual Arts in Schools Report, which examines the programs available to students citywide. Paul Thompson, Executive Director of The Arts Office for the DOE, chose the LaGuardia Gospel Choir and Band as an example of artistic programming in public schools.

"Dr. Jordan and TJ Walkers “angels” opened the festivities as only they could, bringing the audience of educators to tears while Paul Thompson played in duo with senior Elijah Allen, to create a true wall of sound that surrounded the building with pure joy and the beautifully piercing sound of two trumpets." ~Kim Smith

Student Spotlight
CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations goes out to Senior Elijah Allen, for being nominated and accepted into the Vail Jazz Workshop, being held August 26th through September 4th, 2023!

Elijah was nominated (by Keyon Harrold and Leron Thomas) and chosen (by John Clayton, Terrel Stafford, Bill Cunliffe, Dick Oates, Wycliffe Gordon and Lewis Nash) to attend the Vail Jazz Workshop this August.

Elijah is one of only 12 students in North America chosen for this prestigious and coveted program run by John Clayton; where one cannot apply, but has to be nominated and then chosen following submission. The Vail Jazz Workshop is extremely competitive to get into and a real honor to be chosen.
