Message from the Reps

Hello Music Studio Families!

Hopefully you were able to come out to witness two extraordinarily wonderful concerts last week: Atmosphere: Gospel Concert and Show Choir: Heroes & Villains.

Congratulations to all the student performers, teachers and tech crew for two spectacular performances. Check out a few photo and video highlights below!

Our spring concert series will continue in June with the Semi-Annual Concert June 9-10th.

National Teacher's Appreciation Week

Last week was Teacher's Appreciation Week and the Music Studio showed the music faculty and support staff a little bit of love and appreciation with a wonderful lunch, sweet treats and a tote bag!

Hello Music Studio Families,

Hopefully you have been able to enjoy our spring concert season up to this point. Our May performance calendar ended on a high note last week with the LaGuardia Gospel Choir: Atmosphere and  the Show Choir: Heroes & Villains

Our spring performance season continues June 9-10 with the Semi-Annual Senior concert. I look forward to seeing you there.

A huge THANK YOU goes out to the Music Studio Community for providing our teachers with lunch and treats during Teacher's Appreciation Week! All of your efforts and support are greatly appreciated.

Submit Your Auditions Today!

ATTENTION: RISING STARS SUBMISSION DEADLINE TODAY, MAY 15!! 

PARENTS PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO SUBMIT AND KEEP IN MIND:


  • ALL students can submit, even SENIORS!!
  • WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANY AND ALL KINDS OF TALENT - visual/performing - knowing it might or might not perform on main stage. no submission/act is too small!!! There are acts that can be shown in the lobby/mezz/hallways of the building!! The idea is to get as many students from all studios to participate.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

DEADLINES: The deadline to submit auditions is TODAY, May 15th. We are requesting that your work be near completion at a minimum. If you act is incomplete, you will be contacted by the curatorial panel regarding next steps.  


GUIDELINES: Solos and duets: 3 minutes max; Group works: 7 minutes max. 


TECH REHEARSALS: These are rehearsal time frames, please have minimal to no conflicts. Anticipate minimal rehearsal time. 

  • Tuesday, June 13th, 4-8PM
  • Wednesday, June 14th, 8:30AM - 8PM
  • Thursday, June 15th, 10AM - 5PM


SHOWS: June 15th and June 16th, 7:00PM

Make Money with Music: A Professional Talk on Booking Shows

Tuesday, May 23, 3:30-5 p.m. 

This event is in-person only. 

The Riverside Library is hosting an in-person workshop for musicians on how they can make money booking performances on Tuesday, May 23, 3:30-5 p.m. The audience is geared to young adults 14-21 years-old. 

Live and virtual performances can be a great opportunity for independent musicians to make money and hone their craft. Learn practical tips on how to pitch program ideas and book shows from a program director/music professor. Online registration required.  The event is for young adults and limited to 25 people.

Make Music, Make Friends, & Play Live on Stage in NYC

Grow as a person and a musician in NYC's longest runing rock band summer camp. Play in a band and perform on stage at a club here in NYC!

  • Program for all levels: Rock Band 101, Rock Band, or Rock Band & Recording.
  • Advanced students compose & record original music as a band in the unique Rock Band and Recording program
  • Two Week Sessions: 7/5 - 7/14, 7/17 - 7/28, & 7/31 - 8/11

FROM THE TOP

From the Top is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the stories, talents, and character of young classically-trained musicians ages 8-18. Students take part in their Fellowship, which includes recording for the NPR radio program and participating in online sessions with peers, exploring the power of community engagement, content creation, and career paths as musicians.

FROM THE TOP Scholarship Opportunity

For any dedicated young musicians with financial need, in need of funds to support an instrument purchase, regular private lessons, or summer program tuition, students can apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. From the Top’s need-based award of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship.

  • High School seniors graduating in 2024 must apply by November 15, 2023 in order to be considered for the award before graduation.
