SPRING CHORAL CONCERT AT THE HISTORIC RIVERSIDE CHURCH

All Music Studio families please join us at the Spring Choral Concert TODAY, April 3rd at 7pm!

Adult tickets are $30 and students are $20 same price online or at the door.

After three years of hiatus, the Music Studio is happy to announce the return of an honored tradition - The Spring Choral Concert returns this evening, at Riverside Church in Harlem. 

The Spring Choral Concert features our 10th, 11th and 12th grade curricular ensemble: Senior Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Cantare, and Treble Chorus. Ensembles will perform a program of varied choral literature featuring folk songs, contemporary pieces, spirituals, and other choral works.

Hello Music Studio Families,

Spring has sprung, everything's blooming, and spring break is upon us.

We are excited to continue the spring performance season with our final performance before the break; the Spring Choral Concert, tonight, 7 p.m. at Riverside Church in Harlem. Tickets for Riverside are still available and can be purchased at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/tix/4588.

As we create the calendar, we must balance the needs of the studios, and student academic needs and commitments.  The below provides all ensembles with an opportunity to demonstrate their learning through performance.

Teacher Spotlight
Spring Choral Concert

The Music Studio is excited to announce the return of the annual Spring Choral Concert, and would like to acknowledge the wonderful music teachers who have worked so hard to prepare the students and help bring it to fruition.

Jana Ballard

Conductor, Cantare & Senior Chorus

Assistant Director, Mixed Chorus

Jana Ballard has been on the music faculty at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & Performing Arts since the fall of 2007. Ms. Ballard conducts both the Senior Chorus and Cantare, teaches Solo Voice, and assists in Mixed Chorus. She served as the Repertoire & Standards Senior High School Chair for the Eastern Division of the American Choral Directors Association from 2012-2016. Ms. Ballard frequently serves as a guest conductor and clinician for honors choirs; she has also served as a clinician and guest pedagogue with the Metropolitan Opera Education Program. 

Dr. Chris Koelzer, Accompanist

Dr. Koelzer has accompanied and coached at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan since 2020, and is excited to have joined the Vocal Faculty in 2022 as Operetta Workshop Music Team, Collaborative Piano teacher, and assisting choral ensembles. 

Dr. Koelzer performs, records, and coaches regularly in the New York City and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance, and holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music Degrees in Collaborative Piano from University of Maryland, College Park.

From the Top is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the stories, talents, and character of young classically-trained musicians ages 8-18. Students take part in their Fellowship, which includes recording for the NPR radio program and participating in online sessions with peers, exploring the power of community engagement, content creation, and career paths as musicians.

FROM THE TOP Scholarship Opportunity

For any dedicated young musicians with financial need, in need of funds to support an instrument purchase, regular private lessons, or summer program tuition, students can apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. From the Top’s need-based award of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship.

  • To be considered for the JKCYAA Fall 2023 Class, all application materials must be received by April 15, 2023.
  • High School seniors graduating in 2024 must apply by November 15, 2023 in order to be considered for the award before graduation.
