Hello Music Studio Families!

March is marching along at a steady, but quick pace! 

Here's the run down of what has happened over the past week and what's coming up:


Operetta Workshop: The Merry Widow, 3/16-3/18

The spring performance season kicks off this week with the Operetta Workshop: The Merry Widow. You can find the schedule of performances. Click HERE to purchase tickets. 

The Music Studio will be selling merchandise each night of the performance, and as such, we need a few volunteers! See the Volunteer section below for more details. 

Be sure to stop by to make a purchase or just to say hello!


Music Studio General Meeting

Last Tuesday was our Music Studio General Meeting. Former Music Studio parent Nan Hawley moderated the discussion by c/o 2022 LaG graduates, who discussed their college decisions, experiences, and shared some valuable pearls of wisdom. You can find the meeting minutes HERE.

 

Artsbridge

*All students interested in Artsbridge Summer Program - Deadline extended to 3/15*

ArtsBridge Summer gives actors, singers, and fashion designers intensive, immersive training in their art form along with specialized guidance on what it takes to succeed in the college admissions process in their major. These programs are for high school and college transfer students who are seriously considering a college major or minor in the arts. Students work with top college faculty from across the country.

Riverside Choral Concert

After three years of hiatus, the Music Studio is happy to announce the return of an honored tradition - The Riverside Choral Concert returns on the evening of April 3, 2023, at Riverside Church in Harlem. 

The Riverside Choral Concert features our 10th, 11th and 12th grade curricular ensemble: Senior Chorus, Mixed Chorus, Cantare, and Treble Chorus. Ensembles will perform a program of varied choral literature featuring folk songs, contemporary pieces, spirituals, and other choral works.

Lots of volunteers will be needed. Stay tuned; more details will be shared as they become available.

Double Good Popcorn Fundraiser Results
Thank You Music Studio!

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who created a popcorn pop-up store, sold pop corn, purchased popcorn, and shared the links. We had 543 supporters with event total sales of $29,138. 

The Music Studio will receive 50% of the profits, totaling $14,569.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

We need your help for merchandise sales for our 4 Merry Widow performances on Thurs. 3/16, Fri. 3/17, and Sat. 3/18. If you can give some of your time that would be greatly appreciated!

Merchandise sales truly do help our students in the music studio to be able to participate in these wonderful opportunities. And it's a fun way to be involved in our school community!

ISO AT THIRD STREET CONCERTO COMPETITION CONCERT

ISO at Third Street is excited to present the return of Third Street's Annual Concerto Competition on Sunday, March 19. This concert will feature 6 soloists performing with the ISO at Third Symphony and Concert Orchestras. The concert is open to the public and the runtime is 1 hour and 50 minutes with an intermission. Tickets are on sale and available to the public via the Symphony Space box office.

From the Top is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the stories, talents, and character of young classically-trained musicians ages 8-18. Students take part in their Fellowship, which includes recording for the NPR radio program and participating in online sessions with peers, exploring the power of community engagement, content creation, and career paths as musicians.

FROM THE TOP Scholarship Opportunity

For any dedicated young musicians with financial need, in need of funds to support an instrument purchase, regular private lessons, or summer program tuition, students can apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. From the Top’s need-based award of up to $10,000 given in conjunction with full participation in From the Top’s Learning and Media Lab Fellowship.

  • To be considered for the JKCYAA Fall 2023 Class, all application materials must be received by April 15, 2023.
  • High School seniors graduating in 2024 must apply by November 15, 2023 in order to be considered for the award before graduation.
