Message from the Reps

Thank you to everyone who shopped the Music Studio merchandise during the 2nd All School Spirit Shopping Day!

We’ll be back December 15th with merchandise replenishment of some of our more popular items and some new styles too, just in time for holiday shopping.

An Attitude of Gratitude

As we enter the holiday season, we'd like to just take a moment to to say thank you for your support of the Music Studio through your donations and your purchases, and to our volunteers for the generous donation of their time.

Supporting our amazing teachers and talented students is at the heart of all that we do and we couldn't do it without your help.  Together we can accomplish great things!

Join a Club!

Is your student interested in joining an after-school music club?  Click here to view all current after-school music clubs.

Is there a music club that your student is interested in that isn’t listed here? Perhaps they’d like to start one!

Students are encouraged to start clubs that they are interested in and LaG will try to find a faculty member to oversee the club.  All clubs are run by students, but overseen by faculty for safety.

Blurb from Ben

Hello Music Studio families,

As we develop our program to help our student musicians grow, we put a strong emphasis on working with professionals from the community as well as those from academia.  To do this end, we have developed strong partnerships with both professional arts organizations as well as conservatories and universities.  It has been invaluable to see the work that the US Marine Band did with our bands, SMU and Chad Hoopes did with our orchestras, and New York City Opera artists and alumna/Opera star, Laquita Mitchell work with the vocal studio among so many others.

A running list of our partnerships and details about their work with our students can be found on this document: Music Studio Partnership Events and Masterclasses 2022-2023

I am thrilled to announce a new partnership between LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and Interlochen Center for the Artsculminating in an opportunity for our students to be awarded scholarships to attend Interlochen Arts Camp this summer.

Known as the destination for the world’s finest artists, educators, and conductors, Interlochen Arts Camp is a vibrant, creative community that unites passionate artists from around the world. With programs in music, visual arts, theatre, creative writing, dance, film & new media, and interdisciplinary arts, students spend their days practicing their arts and stretching their creativity surrounded by exceptional instructors and talented friends.

As a partner of Interlochen, our students are eligible for a limited number of full tuition scholarships to attend camp in summer 2023. In order to be considered for this scholarship opportunity, you must complete an APPLICATION by January 15, 2023. Use the code LaGuardia23 to waive the application fee. If you have any questions about this opportunity or the application process, please contact admission@interlochen.org.

As you begin planning for the summer, please also know that we plan to continue our LaGuardia Summer Arts program, our program with Mostly Mozart for instrumental music, and a new program - Blues Camp International.  I will share more information about these programs this winter.

Remember - if you ever have any questions, please feel free to email me directly at bschott@schools.nyc.gov

Best,

Ben

Tis the Season of Giving

#GivingTuesday is coming November 29th!

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to your Music Studio. Our current goal is $100,000.  If every Music Studio family were to give $100, we'd make our goal.  However, no amount is too small and any amount is greatly appreciated, as we strive to support our students by funding things such as master classes and accompanists.

Simply click the photo to give, and don't forget to select Music Studio from the list.

Rising Stars Survey Results

Thank you, students! More than 200 of you filled out the Rising Stars Survey despite this busy time. Click here for the results as of 11/9/22. The form remains open for additional student responses.

Show your Appreciation

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!

As many of you know, contributions to the Music Studio help pay for a variety of events - the senior class celebration and Accepted Students Open House - as well as the accompanist for chorus classes, additional live-streaming of Music performances, and other concert expenses. If families contributed $100 (or more!!) for every student, we could help the Music Studio pay for so many of these expenses.  Since LaGuardia is a 501(c)(3) organization, your donation is tax-deductible.

You can make a one-time donation or set up a recurring monthly donation - whichever works better for you - to the Music Studio (and the PA) through PayPal. To do so, click the Direct Donation link below or follow these instructions:

Log into your MTK account, click on Ways to Give under the Donate & Volunteer drop-down menu, then on the underlined red link Donate to a specific studio (2 places on the page allow you to do that). The PayPal page that appears is auto-filled to make a donation to the General PA, but you can designate the Music Studio by clicking on the drop-down menu. Below that box is the option to make your donation a monthly-recurring one. Or, by leaving that box unchecked, the donation will be a one-time donation.

You can select any amount you like to donate. Contributions are very much needed, and all are gratefully received!

Click Direct Donation to give to the LaGuardia PA, but remember to click down on the menu and select MUSIC STUDIO!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteering is a great way to meet people and learn more about Music Studio affairs. Become a volunteer today to support our students and staff all year long, not just at performances. Please make sure you have filled out your volunteer questionnaire on your Membership Toolkit profile.
