Message from the Reps

Welcome to October, Music Studio families!  We had our first studio meeting last week and it was exciting to have 100 participants join us. Lots of introductions from our current Music Studio board and a reminder to all that our board is NOT complete and we definitely need more volunteers to fill all our positions.

If you are interested in running (we still need two Instrumental Reps one Vocal Rep, one in-person volunteer coordinator - we have the remote side covered - and assistants for the Audit Officer, Recording Secretary and Merchandise Coordinator.) Click here to review the document which explains all the positions.

Elections will be held virtually on October 11thWe need your help, so please consider joining us on the board! You can register in advance for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqd-qhpzgoHd0dNwcEHQksHvpjLIpvClm-

A reminder from our principal, if anyone is having difficulty with their NYC Schools Account - https://www.schoolsaccount.nyc/, they can reach out to an administrator, secretary, or guidance staff. These staff members can assist with troubleshooting.  Also, if your child still needs a MetroCard, they should visit the Main Office, room 230.

Gabriel Kosakoff Memorial Concert

On October 17th, there will be a joyful celebration of the life and legacy of the beloved Gabriel Kosakoff (Music and Art 1944 alumnus, and Instrumental Music Faculty and Chair 1956-1991) Gabe passed away last Spring and the family is hosting a memorial concert at the school to honor his legacy. He is responsible for starting and building the music department at Music and Art and then Laguardia. It will be an amazing event with prominent music graduates paying tribute to Gabe. Click HERE to reserve free tickets.

Don't Forget!

Blurb from Ben

Hopefully all Music Studio families saw this first letter to the community from Ben Schott, our Assistant Principal - Music. There's a lot of information in here including a welcome to Leo Freire, LaGuardia's newest Music Technology teacher.  And Mr. Schott also outlines the new names of Instrumental Music Ensembles.  The names were changed to better align with university/conservatory traditions, and better reflect the quality of the ensembles’ work.

He also shared a running list for student opportunities -  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Buy6JBRWii_Es7gv2T1MQfFV24XVuaevlELaaytvlNs/edit - so perhaps there's something exciting in there for your student.  Ben's next letter will be out soon, with the eagerly anticipated performance schedule!

Music Studio Merch

New "LaG Swag" has arrived, and we excited to announce that we will be participating in the in-person School Spirit Shopping Day at the end of October!!  Our online Music Studio Store is still closed, but once we are open for business, you will hear about here first!

If you have questions or comments please email lagmusicstudiostore@gmail.com

Show your Appreciation

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! As many of you know, contributions to the Music Studio help pay for a variety of events - the senior class celebration and Accepted Students Open House - as well as the accompanist for chorus classes, additional live-streaming of Music performances, and other concert expenses. If families contributed $100 (or more!!) for every student, we could help the Music Studio pay for so many of these expenses.  Since LaGuardia is a 501(c)(3) organization, your donation is tax-deductible.

You can make a one-time donation or set up a recurring monthly donation - whichever works better for you - to the Music Studio (and the PA) through PayPal. To do so, click the Direct Donation link below or follow these instructions:

Log into your MTK account, click on Ways to Give under the Donate & Volunteer drop-down menu, then on the underlined red link Donate to a specific studio (2 places on the page allow you to do that). The PayPal page that appears is auto-filled to make a donation to the General PA, but you can designate the Music Studio by clicking on the drop-down menu. Below that box is the option to make your donation a monthly-recurring one. Or, by leaving that box unchecked, the donation will be a one-time donation.

You can select any amount you like to donate. Contributions are very much needed, and all are gratefully received!

Click Direct Donation to give to the LaGuardia PA.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteering is a great way to meet people and learn more about Music Studio affairs. Become a volunteer today to support our students and staff all year long, not just at performances. Please make sure you have filled out your volunteer questionnaire on your Membership Toolkit profile.
